Magic Loop

Argh. That's all. Here's a link if you're wondering what I'm complaining about this time. I have two pairs of pants on needles right now, one on 7s and one on 8s. One has a picture being knit into the hiney, so it's not so good for a taking out project. The other is just stripes and a good project to take with us to karate and such. After I had the waistband done for the pair on 7s (waistband is done on smaller needles), I realized I didn't have 16" 7s. I have a 20 something inches circ 7. And I spent my yarn $ on the Thomas stuff clearanced at Michaels. So here I sit whining about magic loop. But, before too long, Moose will be marching around in stripy wool pants, and a little while after that, both boys will have their heads pressed to the carpet driving new engines freshly shredded out of birthday wrapping paper, and magic loop will seem a silly thing to fuss about.

Weeeeeeeee

My package from knitpicks.com came today :D :D :D There's enough wool in there to make my toddler 3 pairs of pants, and 1 maybe 2 for the new babe.

Now how do I decide which pair to start?! There's a dandelion and cloud for the new babe, I was thinking cloud waist and ankle cuffs, yellow pant. And for my toddler a merino pine green and hollyberry red wide striped pair, a "nemo" pair with orange, black and white stripes, and a moose pair, dark brown with a light brown waist and moose knit into the hiney. I can't decide between the moose or the nemo, the moose HAS to be done soon due to my impatience level, but the nemo colors would be perfect for fall. Decisions decisions.

Hat and pants

A rather fuzzy pic of dd's "stwahbewwy" hat. She loves it :D

The soaker pants I started on first. One blue cuff is almost 2 inches longer than the other, I decided unknitting was too much of a pain to make them even :p The waist and hiney are pretty snug. Not bad for my very first pair though aye?

I have a moose washie done too, I haven't taken a picture of it yet, sorta doubt the detail would show up in a pic. Right now I'm working on a poncho for dd. Hope to have it done by the time the PO finally delivers my wool.

They're finished!!!!!!

The waist is a smidge too high, and the 1.5" cuffs have to be rolled up for now, so it best fit him for awhile! His very first momma-made woolies!!

Progress on the Gate Night soaker pants

Variegateds pack a surprise, you never know what they'll knit up like. I think I like the pattern starting on the pantleg better than the top part lol.

Urg.

I've been working with double pointed needles (dpn) for the first time today. My only opinion at the moment:
WHERE CAN I BUY A 12 INCH CIRCULAR!?

Just read the comments for the hat! It's the yarn that makes it look so kewl really... being knit in the round it was super easy, just kept knitting around...
I can see how my years of sewing custom stuff for my kids has helped, I have a good understanding of how clothing is shaped/made already, so I'm not learning that at the same time I'm learning to knit.

Right now I'm working on the second pair of soaker pants, the ribbed waistband with drawstring holes is done, and I'm about 3-4 inches past that. The Gate Night yarn is turning out stripey, the more I knit it the more I like it I think.

Hat

This was just finished up this morning, for my oldest ds. I got a great big jack o lantern grin when I showed this to him (someday those teeth will grow back in..). :)

This was knit in the round all the way up, with a "yo k2tog, k3" row near the top for the drawstring holes. To figure out the number of stitches for cast on I swatched the yarn to get my stitches per inch, then measured ds's head, took off 2 inches so it wouldn't be too loose, and multiplied those two numbers. For the heighth, I kept trying it on him when I got near where I thought it should be, until it fit perfectly, then I did the row with holes, and knit 4 or 5 more rows on top of that row. For the drawstring I managed to make a crochet chain. Stitchguide.com is awesome! The yarn is Sugar'n Cream cotton, in the Summer Splash colorway.
